Working together
The strong relationship between local authorities and NFER goes back many years. The practical expression of this relationship is the link people or liaison officers, who act as a point of contact between the NFER and local authority colleagues in education and children’s services.
The EMIE service, which NFER ran from 1981 to 2011, worked closely with every authority. The EMIE link people were the first point of contact for distributing publications and also helped to ensure that information collection operated effectively. This included activities such as
-
providing current documents from their authority
-
identifying key contacts in the authority
-
answering surveys.
NFER liaison officers help to ensure the smooth operation of our extensive work with schools.
These roles are so mutually beneficial that the NFER will be developing the relationships further over the coming months. They will underpin the development of the LGA/NFER research programme and our other work with local authorities and schools.localgovernment@nfer.ac.uk.
Who are the link people?
Link people work in different departments in different authorities, reflecting the varied structures and practices in education and children’s services. Links include directors, heads of service, managers, officers, and administrative staff, in planning, policy, data collection, school support and corporate information departments.
