Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, has laid a Written Ministerial Statement informing Parliament that the first 16 Free School proposals are ready to progress to the next stage of the process.
 
Admissions lottery

Brighton & Hove's controversial school admissions lottery system has failed in one of its key aims, that of giving deprived children equal access to better performing schools, according to a study by academics from the Institute of Education, London, and the University of Bristol.
 
Schools converting to academies

Michael Gove, Education Secretary, has announced that 142 schools have accepted the Government's offer on becoming academies since the Academies Act became law just over a month ago.
