Anne’s principal work for the past twenty years has been the development of the national curriculum reading tests for use at the end of KS2. Alongside this, her research in reading assessment has included the development of optional reading tests for years 3 to 5, 7 and 8, the analysis of pupil performance on KS2 tests, the development of several of the single level reading instruments and, on occasion, work on reading assessments for international projects. Most recently, her work has focused on the definition of what constitutes level 6 reading in primary aged children.
Other non-assessment research has involved the comparison of language curricula across several countries for the DFE and a literature review on the teaching of inference and deduction (also for the DFE). Anne’s roles are varied: sometimes leading projects, sometimes working as a team member and sometimes working alone.
